Michael Bloom is a Crown prosecutor turned criminal defence Attorney

His years working as a Crown prosecutor taught him invaluable knowledge about the way criminal cases are prosecuted. He is able to identify weaknesses in the Crown’s case, and assess whether you have been provided with all relevant disclosure. Using this information and superior analytical skills, he will develop a defence strategy and trial plan to win your case.

He attended law school at the University of Western Ontario, where he was the recipient of many first-in-class academic awards. He also worked as a Crown prosecutor at the Surrey Provincial Court, which is the busiest courthouse not only in the Province of British Columbia, but also in Canada. He successfully litigated hundreds of criminal cases, working at the Criminal Justice Branch in British Columbia.

Michael Bloom was approached by the exceptional criminal defence lawyer Jonathan J. Israels to be his partner in December 2020, when his former partner, the now Honourable Judge Emmet Duncan was appointed to the bench (appointed December 12, 2021, sworn in January 11, 2021).

For a number of years, Mr. Bloom worked for the legendary defence attorney, Russ Chamberlain, Q.C. who died in March of 2019.

Russ Chamberlain, Q.C. participated in some of the biggest and most famous criminal trials in Vancouver history, including the Bindy Johal murder case.  He is also widely known for his work in the 1976-1977 trial of the Penthouse nightclub owners (The Philliponi's) in regards to prostitution allegations. During this case, he famously escorted judge William Traynor to the club for a tour in hopes of better presenting his case.

Through both of these trials, Russ Chamberlain, Q.C. demonstrated his depth of knowledge, his fearless personality, and his acumen. Throughout his life, Russ Chamberlain, Q.C. also argued seven times in the Supreme Court of Canada.

Mr. Bloom learned everything he could from Russ Chamberlain, Q.C. and uses those skills today in his criminal defence practice.
